(The Triangle Trend) — If you’ve ever had a child (or been one) in public school, you’re probably familiar with the “magical” book fairs that kids just can’t get enough of. Those shiny book covers and crisp pages at Scholastic Book Fairs offer youth book lovers an experience that a school library simply can’t compare with. Even kids who hate reading have been known to walk out of one of these fairs with books in hand and a big smile.
Even though physical book fairs are only ever so slowly resurfacing due to COVID-19, your kids can still get in on the action from the comforts of home. That’s right; when you head to shop.scholastic.com, you’re able to virtually attend Scholastic’s Book Fair! For parents of book worms, this site is a game-changer.
You can take a trip to a 360-degree view virtual book fair, showcasing what books would be available in a preschool, elementary school, and middle school. More importantly, though, you can shop by age. Age categories you’re able to filter by include:
- Birth – Two years
- Three – Five years
- Six – Eight years
- Nine – Twelve years
- Thirteen Plus
And you can search by grade. Pre-K up to 12th grade are all listed on the site—which is a pleasant surprise since Scholastic Book Fairs typically don’t even come to high schools!
You can also search by the formats of:
- Boxed Sets & Collections
- Paperback Books
- Hardcover Books
- Picture Books
- Chapter Books
- Board Books
- Workbooks & Activity Books
But that’s not it. If you’re a mama bear or papa bear on a mission, you can even pick out the subject or genre of books you want for your child. As a pro parent tip, filter by your preference first, and then let your child pick from the book results. Everyone ends up happy in the end.
Subject and genre filters include:
- Comic Books & Graphic Novels
- Early Learning
- Historical Fiction
- Reading & Phonics
- Science & Technology
- Social & Emotional
- Social Studies
- Spanish Language / en Español
- Special Education
- STEM / STEAM
That’s a lot of books! Fortunately, you can narrow your search even more if you’re shopping on a budget. Price filters range from “under $5” up to “$50-$100”. So at least you know in advance that nothing on Scholastic’s site exceeds $100 by itself. Beyond that, you can filter by the languages of English, Spanish, and Bilingual Spanish. Even if you’re not a native Spanish speaker, you can totally get your child to spend their extra time at home learning the language. Last but definitely not least, you can filter your search by reading level. Not to be confused with age level, under this filter you can specify guided reading, DRA, Lexile, or Accelerated Reader.
If you or your kiddo knows exactly what it is that you want from Scholastic, then by all means use the search bar to look for a specific book title, author, or ISBN.
Once you pick out your book(s), you’ll have to fill in your shipping and payment information to place an order. There is no pick-up option.
