Raleigh Community Centers Offer Free After School PACK Program to Keep Kids Engaged

(The Triangle Trend) — Your kids may be stuck at home for school, but there’s still time to register them for an afterschool program at five different community centers across Raleigh! Parks Play, Activate, Connect Kids (PACK) is a free program designed for youth in kindergarten through fifth grade. PACK allows kids the opportunity to be stimulated and active through organized activities, giving them a fun and safe break from remote learning.

The Fun Stuff:

Activities range from arts and crafts to boards games and cards, physical activities, movies and quiet games. Organized activities based in science, engineering, nature, and even cooking will also take place.

Safety Measures:

In addition to the requirement of face masks, modifications have been made to ensure the safest experience for everyone involved. Before entering the facility, a wellness screening must be completed—answer a short questionnaire and use a touchless thermometer. The kids will also be assigned to a group of 12 people or less, and any equipment shared between separate groups will be sanitized before and between uses. With weather permitting, most activities will be scheduled outside. Playgrounds will not be accessible due to Phase 2 restrictions.

Homework:

An allotted “homework time” will be provided for participants to access their Google Classrooms to work on assignments for school.

The program runs through December and is held 3:30pm to 6pm Monday through Friday, with a light snack provided.
